Daily rainstorms, sweltering heat, mosquitoes- summer is here! Here’s my favorite fabulously frugal things to help you survive these next few months. Everything is under $15. If you missed the spring list, you can find it here!
1- Sweet Loren’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, $4.99
No mixing, no measuring, just delicious chocolate-y goodness. Bring them to your next summer cook-out or picnic!
2- Hidden Figures, $2.00/day rental, Redbox
When it’s just too hot to be outside this summer, rent this from Redbox. Poignant, eye-opening, and hopeful, it tells the story of 3 women who were key in helping America put a man into space in the 1960s.
3- Eos Lip Balm in Raspberry, $2.99, Target
Natural ingredients, a fun shaped container, and a non-sticky clear balm that tastes great!
4- San Pellegrino Blood Orange Sparkling Fruit Beverage, $3.99/6-pack
First tried this at a pizza restaurant but it’s available at grocery stores also. Has great flavor without an artificial orange taste! No artificial colors or corn syrup, it’s mostly water, orange juice, and sugar.
5- Evercare Delicates Bag, $4.99
Between swim suits, baby socks, and delicates, I use mesh bags every week in the laundry. My first ones were from Target and they didn’t last long before getting holes and tears. I saw these at my local grocery store so thought I’d give them a try. They have held up SO much better in the wash!
6- Legrand Radiant Wall Outlet, $14.98, Lowe’s
This doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with summer, but my husband loves this and thought I should add it to the list 🙂 . So if you’re looking for a nightlight that won’t cover up an outlet, this one is great. It has different levels of brightness and turns off automatically during the daytime. Since the nightlight is built into the outlet, little kiddo fingers can’t pull it out of the wall 🙂 .
7- Pacifica Sun + Lip Care SPF 30 Mineral Color, $4.99, Target
If you’re looking for a more natural lip balm with subtle color and SPF, this one’s for you! It comes in clear, nude, & peach. I bought the peach one and loved it- it’s a little drier than the ones made with petroleum byproducts, but combined with a gloss on top, it’s perfect!
8- 32 Degrees “Cool Tees”, $7.97/2 pack, Costco
I needed some new work out tees and these ones from Costco fit the bill. I was surprised at how nice these look and fit for being $4 each. They run a bit small/fitted, but they’re super stretchy and soft. I will probably hang dry them so they don’t shrink. They’re moisture-wicking which is great for summer. The packaging says that each shirt is made from 5 recycled water bottles, so that’s a nice bonus too!
9- Trader Joe’s Face & Body Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 30, $5.99, Trader Joe’s
I’m usually skeptical of a sunscreen that says you can use it on your face and body, since the body sunscreens are usually thicker and more greasy. Not so with this one from Trader Joe’s: it’s lightweight and non-greasy, doesn’t have a strong smell, and dries quickly. Their description states that it is non-comedogenic, PABA free, paraben free, fragrance free, and oil free. I was reading recently that “expired” sunscreens aren’t effective in preventing sunburn since the components break down over time, so if you haven’t bought sunscreen yet for this summer, give this one a try!
10- Thai Coconut Curry Hummus, hopefoods.com
Tired of bringing the same chips and salsa to summer events? Try this coconut curry hummus- mix it with a few avocados and it makes an amazing sweet-yet-spicy chip dip!
